Dogs, like all living things, need to communicate with each other and with other animals and people. Pets usually bark, but not all of them. Some pretend to be a predator and start howling.

- By howling, a pet can communicate its desires, for example, it is very thirsty, hungry or walking.
- By howling, the dog complains to its owner about its poor health.
- During the day, when people are at work, the puppy is very lonely and howls again.
- At night, the dog can also howl, but at the moon, which prevents him from sleeping.
- Sometimes a pet dog suddenly switches from barking to howling. Why did this happen? It heard the howls of its homeless brethren and joined in, i.e. decided to support their conversation.
- It happens that an animal has a good ear for music and when it hears music, especially classical music, it starts to sing along. Why keep quiet when you have the opportunity to show off your musical abilities? The hosts laugh at first, clap their hands, and when the artist gets too far along, they start scolding him, probably out of envy.

How to stop your dog from howling
If you are very annoyed by dog howling, before you get a four-legged friend, you need to carefully read about different breeds of dogs and choose the quietest one.
After you get a puppy, you need to train it, accustom it to the commands “Voice!” and “Quiet!”. You should praise him for his correct execution of the commands and treat him to some goodies. In the future, it will be easy to stop the howling of such an animal with the command “Quiet!”. If you have someone else who loves music besides your dog, you should take him for a walk in the park during music lessons.
The dog should be taught to stay at home alone. It must have food, water in sufficient quantities, and various toys to keep it happy. You can turn on the radio in another room, so the dog will hear voices and think that he is not alone. Maybe you should get another pet. They will have more fun together. If you plan to leave him alone for a long time, it is advisable to walk him well first, so that he runs around, gets tired and then sleeps until you return.
Folk signs of why a dog howls
A dog’s long and sad howl, especially at night, inspires unconditional fear, which has given rise to folk omens. And they do not promise anything good, except for a change in the weather.
If the dog is howling:
- like a wolf, for a month – to a change in the weather;
- with its muzzle up – to a fire or death of a neighbour;
- lowering the head – to death in the household;
- looking forward – to famine or war;
- lying down – to your own death.
